2023-2024 Cupcake Challenge

Each class period comes together to create a Periodic Table made entirely out of full-size cupcakes. Every cupcake must be accurately decorated with the correct color coding, element symbol, and atomic number according to our classroom's Periodic Table.

First things first, students gather their ingredients and assign tasks. From purchasing supplies to baking and decorating, each student plays a crucial role in completing their edible Periodic Table. They create a shopping list, coordinate baking schedules, and ensure all necessary items are ready to go the day before the big event.

On the day of the challenge, the students set up their classroom’s cupcake decorating stations. With precision and creativity, each student tackles their assigned section, carefully crafting cupcakes that are as accurate as possible.

Their creations are judged based on accuracy, time finished, creativity, and neatness. Teachers inspect each Periodic Table while evaluating the students’ efforts with fairness and expertise. And when the scores are tallied, the students enjoy the eating their creations.

Each student reflects on the pros and cons of their experience and how their class worked together to complete their Periodic Table of cupcakes. Team work and collaboration are essential in success of their project.
